Bengaluru, May 3 (IPLDEKHO.COM): In a high-octane repeat of last season’s final-over drama, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) Yash Dayal once again emerged as the hero, defending 15 runs in the final over to secure a nail-biting 2-run win over Chennai Super Kings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Chasing a daunting 214, CSK fell agonisingly short at 211/5, despite valiant knocks from youngster Ayush Mhatre (94 off 48) and veteran Ravindra Jadeja (77* off 45). With MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube at the crease in the final over, and 15 needed off 6 balls, RCB’s left-arm pacer repeated his 2024 heroics — where he had defended 16 against Jadeja and Dhoni — by delivering pinpoint yorkers under pressure.
The defining moment came on the third ball, when Dayal trapped Dhoni LBW for 12, a dismissal that tilted the balance decisively. Shivam Dube struck a boundary but failed to find the big hits needed in the final deliveries.
Earlier, RCB posted 213/5, riding on a collective effort from their top order. CSK’s chase was anchored by Mhatre, who fell just short of a maiden IPL hundred, and Jadeja, who kept the fight alive until the last ball.
